Types of Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are available in four main varieties. To affix to the next teeth, three of them use various methods. The fourth kind uses an implant to join the jawbone.

Traditional. In a typical bridge, crowns are placed on either side of one or more replacement teeth. It is required to slightly grind down the abutment teeth. After being positioned over the original teeth, the crowns are fixed firmly.

Cantilever. When there is just one abutment tooth, this is employed in a manner similar to a typical bridge. The bridge is held in place at a single location using a cantilever design.

Maryland. The neighboring teeth are connected to the Maryland dental bridge as well. But instead of requiring crowns on the abutment teeth, it features a metal structure that uses resin to adhere to the inside of the natural teeth.

Implant-Supported. Certain bridges are supported by implants. Dental implants are tiny metal studs that they affix directly to the jawbone, simulating natural tooth roots. One implant is usually put for each replacement tooth.
